Q: I injured myself and have not been able to attend class. Can I freeze my membership?
A: Overtime MMA will only freeze a membership without penalty for a member who has sustained an injury and will be unable to participate in class for a period of time. In order to freeze a membership, the member must present a doctor's note that states the exact injury and the estimated period of absence from training. Members on a yearly contract will have their membership period extended for the amount of time that their account was frozen. Memberships can only be frozen for upcoming months. You cannot retroactively freeze your membership if you have been injured and have failed to report it.
Q: Can I freeze for any reason other than injury?
A: Freezes for reasons other than injury are not automatically allowed. If we do decide to allow a member to freeze, he or she may be subject to a $30 per month holding fee while the membership is frozen.
Q: I might be moving later in the year and would need to cancel my membership. Can I sign up for a yearly contract and cancel once I know about my moving plans?
A: Yearly contracts require you to be a member at Overtime MMA for one year. We cannot cancel a yearly contract, we can only freeze it for a period of time if there is a medical issue that will prevent the member from training. If you anticipate that you might be moving in the near future, we suggest that you sign up for a monthly membership plan (which requires a 30 day notice for cancellation).
Q: I am interested in the flexible membership plan. Can I come to more than one class per day, and do I have to come the same 2 days every week?
A: With the flexible membership, you do not have to come the same 2 days each week. For example, you may choose to come a Tuesday and a Thursday during your first week of training, and then a Wednesday and Saturday the next week. You may attend classes as many times per day as you want during the 2 days per week you attend. So you can come to a Thursday morning class, and then come back later in the day and stay for 2 evening classes.
Q: With the flexible membership plan, can I use the weight lifting equipment every day but only attend classes 8 days per month?
A: No, you may only use lifting equipment on the days that you attend classes.
Q: I am on the flexible membership plan. If I only attend class once in one week, can I make up for it my attending 3 times the next week?
A: Yes, as long as you do not go over 8 classes per month limit, attending more than 2 days per week is fine. If you do happen to come more than 8 days per month, you will be charged a $25 day fee for the extra day(s).
Q: I want to cancel my membership. What do I need to do to cancel?
A: If you are on a monthly plan, you can cancel your membership by
contacting our office at 630-947-0850 or stopping in during our business hours. We need 30 days notice of your cancellation to stop your next month’s payment, so be sure to inform us 30 days before your next billing cycle of your cancellation. Yearly contract members cannot cancel at any time unless it is within 3 days of the day they signed up for membership.
Q: If I cancel my membership and decide to rejoin later, do I need to pay the initiation fee again?
A: Yes.
Q: I’d like to sign up with a family member. Do I get a discount?
A: We give a 15% discount for each additional family member after the first person signs up.
Q: I would like to sign up with a friend or co-worker. Do I get a discount?
A: We currently do not offer discounts for non-family members. However, if you have a large number of people signing up from one company/workplace, please talk to us about a potential corporate discount.
Q: I am not a member at Overtime MMA, but I’d like to come and watch a class. Do I have to pay for a visitor’s day pass if I am just watching and not participating?
A: You do not have to pay for a visitor’s day pass if you are just observing a class. However, if you wish to participate in the class, you must pay the day fee and sign all necessary waivers.
Q: If I buy the one day visitor’s pass, can I only go to one class that day or may I attend multiple classes?
A: You may attend multiple classes on that day with the visitor’s day pass.
Q: I am a member at Overtime MMA. May I videotape the classes?
A: No, we do not allow video taping of classes without special permission from the Overtime MMA staff.
Q: What equipment do I need in order to participate in classes?
A:
Members who wish to participate in boxing classes purchase their own 16 ounce boxing gloves, and that those who wish to take the Muay Thai and MMA classes purchase their own gloves and shin pads. We also require head gear for any members who wish to spar in boxing, Muay Thai, and MMA.
Protective cups and mouthguards are also required when sparring.
A gi is required if you choose to do the gi Brazilian Jiu-jitsu classes. (You do not need a gi for the no-gi grappling classes - a t-shirt and shorts are sufficient). Members participating in the wrestling classes often wear wrestling shoes, but they are not required. Boxing gloves, MMA gloves, shin pads, and sparring headgear are available for purchase at the Overtime MMA pro shop. We also have gi order forms at the front desk for those who wish to order a gi.
Q: Do I have to be a fighter to train at Overtime MMA?
A: No, you do not have to be a fighter to train at Overtime MMA. We have members who train with us that represent a variety of different levels – from those who have just started training and just want to have a fun way to stay in shape, to those who focus on training in a specific discipline, to those who do fight professionally. We welcome people of all experience levels, ages, and gender to participate in our classes.
Q: Are there different levels of classes at Overtime MMA?
A: Classes combine all levels. However, the instructor will often show the first few techniques in a progression to the beginning members while the more advanced members will go a few steps farther in the progression. Members are encouraged to work at whatever pace fits their comfort level. We do have a few very advanced classes that require instructor approval to participate in.
Q: What age do children need to be to participate?
A: Kids' classes are for kids aged 9-12 years old. We currently offer boxing and Brazilian jiu-jitsu classes for kids. Check our schedule for updated kids class times
Q: Do Overtime MMA Members get a discount on gear or products sold in the Pro Shop?
A: From time to time, we will have special promotions on gear and products, but aside from that, there are currently no special discounts for members.
Q: Are there showers at Overtime MMA?
A: We currently do not have showers, but we do provide lockers and restrooms.
